Do you want to write a story, novel, or blog, but you don’t quite know how to begin? Or have you started and are you wondering how best to continue? This course intends to help you by exploring a variety of tools and techniques for creative writing. The interactive set-up will include exercises and how to give and receive useful feedback.
We will cover basic building blocks for structuring your observations, thoughts, and feelings into stories, and play with principles like using your senses to write vivid scenes. We will pay attention to writing characters, dialogue, action, and atmosphere. We’ll also spend time on how you can tap into your inspiration, create tension, and build a solid plot.
Depending on group preferences, we can then either delve into more technical aspects like perspective and sentence structure, or we can focus on the process of writing and discuss ingredients for creative contemplation.
NB: There are two creative writing courses. The Dutch spoken one is indicated with (NL) and the English spoken one is indicated with (ENG). Make sure you enroll for the right language.
This English course starts on Thursday 15 January 2026 at 15.30 and will be 10 weeks in a row on the same day and time. The course will take place in the Green Room in Usva.
